Luxury homes abound in Marin County largely due to proximity to San Francisco and consequently are located mainly in South and Central Marin, from Sausalito to San Rafael and Fairfax. Superb estates are further north and west from Highway 101 to the coast where one can expect a much bigger bang for the buck in return for longer travel time to San Francisco and distance from infrastructure and services. 

One can use tools such as Luxury Portfolio however I recommend using the MLS. The presentations on Luxury Portfolio and other "luxury aggregators" are exclusively luxury, although definition of luxury is arbitrary and likely low for most, but the MLS can do it better by providing more opportunity to refine searches. Please, take care when searching to include rather than exclude so as not to allow poorly presented listings to sneak by without consideration.
